Most outcome measures we're taught in training were validated on acute, post-stroke populations, where change is large and happens fast. They're not built to detect the smaller, slower shifts you see in clients managing dysphagia at home over months or years.
Which means two things: it's harder to demonstrate progress to funders, case managers, and families and it's harder to know whether what you're doing is actually working.
This session introduces outcome measurement tools that are better suited to chronic dysphagia presentations, along with practical strategies to support your clients in setting goals that go beyond impairment-based targets.
You'll leave with frameworks for more meaningful goal setting, a critique of SMART goals and what to do instead, and two validated outcome measures you can start using straight away.

Dysphagia Goal Prompt Sheet & Goal Attainment Scaling Guide for Outcome Measurement.
End of chapter quiz also included.
