Beyond the Bedside: Managing Dysphagia in the Community

Dysphagia looks different when home is the clinical setting.

The goals, the environment, and the risk profile of each client is unique, so the management plan should be too.

4th – 6th November 2026

This isn't going to be your typical professional development event. It's three full days of dysphagia: assessment, treatment, goal setting and outcome measurement, but delivered in a way that will be engaging, practical, and yes fun!

It will take place at an environmental education centre and urban farm in Melbourne. Think cafe on site, community gardens, and a vibe that is definitely not screaming “conference room in the basement with a 2009 inspired slide deck.”

You'll leave with more clinical knowledge and confidence than you arrived with, new SLP connections, a renewed energy for the work you do, and if you're lucky, one of several prizes up for grabs - valued at over $200 (and no, that cost isn't embedded into the ticket price. It's a real bonus).

And it won't just be me talking at you all day. It will be hands on and interactive too!

I'm still finalising the modules but just to give you a taste, some of the core ones I plan to include: oral health assessment, developing oral care plans, conducting a cranial nerve examination, developing a dysphagia rehab plan from a real VFSS report, creating a risk profile based on case studies & developing mealtime management plans.
